Dear Friends at MT Sobek,
My daughter and I had talked about a bucket-list trip to climb Kilimanjaro a few years ago, but finally in the middle of last year her reminder made me realize that if we were going to do this tour, it was now. After some initial research, our travel agent put us onto Mountain Travel Sobek to coordinate a custom-designed ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro followed by a luxury four-day safari. We signed on, and having just returned from that trip, there is no question it was the best decision we made to make this a truly memorable trip.
The thought of going to such a truly different place and experiencing something so challenging as the Kilimanjaro Western Breach Route, gave us a lot of concerns and fortunately Mountain Travel Sobek truly made this as worry-free as we could ask for. From the abundant information they provided prior to this level 5 trip to the final drop-off at the airport, they ensured we were warmly and well taken care of throughout the entire the journey.
The staff and guides throughout the entire trip were amazing. We felt at home everywhere we went. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and clearly committed to making our trip amazing and ensuring we were successful in reaching the summit, experiencing the culture, and seeing fantastic wildlife and scenery. The summit team especially amazed us; despite their own climb up the mountain, the cooks and porters were always ready with a welcoming camp and incredible food, ensuring we were encouraged, refreshed, and ready to tackle the next day. Every day my daughter and I looked at each other in amazement at the experience we were having and despite some of the challenges in the climb, we were confident we would reach the top, mostly because of the care and expertise of our guides and support team.
At 6:45am, on the seventh day, we stood together with our fellow hikers and guides in front of the summit sign. We had already had an experience for a lifetime, but knew we still had several days ahead of us out on the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. Those days were equally amazing, but that’s a story for another time.
Thank you Mountain Travel Sobek for blowing every expectation we had out of the water and truly making this best hike bucket-list trip every bit as incredible as we could have hoped. There’s no question we will gladly recommend MTS to our friends and family and look to them for our next adventure, wherever that might be.
