April 10, 2009 – After 4 years of inactivity, La Cumbre Volcano has started new eruptive activity on the unpopulated Galapagos island of Fernandina. Now is a GREAT time to visit the islands to witness this unusual volcanic activity, and enjoy a rare opportunity to photograph the seaside lava flow and smoke pouring from a volcano’s crater. Park authorities report there is no threat to humans in the area (although they will continue to monitor the situation closely), and our excursions to Punta Espinoza on Fernandina and the surrounding areas continue uninterrupted.
