ENGLAND: Coast to Coast
England's classic "Coast-to-Coast" walk is described by many as one of the top ten hikes in the world. It's 190 miles of sheer hiking pleasure, from the Irish Sea to the North Sea, and takes in three national parks: the Lake District, where England's highest mountains are found; the long green valleys of the Yorkshire Dales (of James Herriot fame), and the sometimes bleak but often dramatic landscapes of the North Yorkshire Moors. On our trip you'll hike the entire 190 miles (not just sections!), but there are options to take portions off the hikes off by request.
We offer the traditional “West to East” route (with the wind at your back!), in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright, who originated this walk in the 1970s. You'll begin on the sea cliffs at historic St. Bees (where you'll commence the long-distance walk in traditional style, by dipping at least a toe in the Irish Sea!) and finish up at Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea. Along the way, you'll spend a little extra time in the Lake District, pausing at Grasmere, home to Lakeland's favorite poet, William Wordsworth, who described the area as "the loveliest spot that man has ever known."
