On this classic first-timer's trek through the legendary Khumbu (Everest region), your senses come fully alive, and all the views are magical: a stunning panorama of Himalayan monarchs - a veritable outdoor cathedral of soaring peaks (including a "peek" at Everest - especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset!). But there's more to Nepal than mountain grandeur. Lively villages and ancient monasteries are captivating and invite exploration, but it's the friendly Sherpa people, whose hearts are as big as the mountains themselves, that you'll remember for a lifetime.  Itinerary: Nepal - Everest Escapade
Day 1 - Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal. Day 2 - Tour nearby Bhaktapur, with its well-preserved 17th-century architecture. Day 3 - Fly to Lukla (9,200'), meet the Sherpa crew, and trek to Phakding (8,875'), passing mani walls (boulders with carved Buddhist prayer inscriptions), small villages, and terraced hillsides. Days 4-5 - Steep climb to Namche Bazaar (11,270'). Layover day to explore the area or perhaps bargain for treasures at the market. Days 6-7 - Hike to the remote village of Thame and visit its monastery (13,000') boasting spectacular mountain views; continue to Khumjung with its great mountain panoramas. Days 8-9 - Trek to Tengboche Monastery (12,680'), with its eye-popping views of Ama Dablam (some consider it the most beautiful peak in the Himalaya). From here you can get a view of the great massif of Mount Everest. Days 10-11 - Return trek to Lukla via the village of Monjo. Day 12 - Fly to Kathmandu. Day 13 - Sightseeing in Kathmandu, including the Hindu shrines at Pashupatinath on the Bagmati River and the large Buddhist stupa at Bodhnath, center of the Tibetan Buddhist culture in Kathmandu.
