An Anniversary Follow the Leader Trip with Jamling Tenzing Norgay

Experience a unique Himalayan trek in India’s remote and breathtaking Sikkim province. Here in the region where Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan come together, you’ll venture onto the Zemu Glacier and arrive at the base camp of Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain on Earth. You’ll trek through fertile river valleys and tiny mountain villages, through the land of the Lepcha, people who are direct descendents of the aboriginal inhabitants of these high lands. Along the way you’ll pass by what once was Green Lake and walk under the shadow of Mount Sinolchu, called “the most beautiful snow mountain in the world” by the first Westerner to see it. Your guide is Jamling Tenzing Norgay, son of the famous Tenzing, first man to reach the summit of Everest. Jamling has trekked in west Sikkim since his childhood—and regularly leads trips there today (see our Trekking in Sikkim trip)—Northern Sikkim is an area he has never visited yet and always wanted to trek, to explore this remote and sensitive area restricted by special permit. An expedition true to the heritage of Mountain Travel!

BOOK EARLY!
Special permits are required to trek in this area, and must be secured months in advance.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

  • Breathtaking views of Mt Siniolchu, Simvo, Twin Peaks, Nepal Peak and Kanchenjunga throughout
  • Experience the ethnic diversity and mountain culture of the little-traveled Sikkim region
  • Be one of the few adventurers to visit Northern Sikkim—allowable only by special permit and where only few have gone

"North Sikkim is an area that I have always wanted to explore; it is highly restricted (close to the Tibetan border) and is therefore seldom traveled. In coming up with this trek to East Base Camp of Kanchenjunga and Green Lake, I hoped to put together a unique and different experience that would appeal to all my friends and fellow trekkers who have traveled with me in the past. I felt that trekking in this remote area would be an ideal experience: to feel what it is like to be at the Base camp of Kanchenjunga—on the Sikkimese side. ~ Jamling Tenzing Norgay
