The crown jewel of the Bolivian Andes is the Cordillera Real, a fabulous wilderness of massive blue-white glaciers tumbling from 20,000-foot snowy peaks that hold sway over amazing alpine valleys with sparkling lakes. In fact, many travelers compare it favorably with the Himalaya, high praise indeed!

On this challenging trek, led by multitalented mountain guide Sergio Fitch-Watkins, you'll hike beneath some of the highest peaks of the Cordillera Real, and encounter remote Indian villages where you'll meet descendants of the Incas and Aymaras who seldom see visitors from the outside world. You'll also visit picturesque La Paz, at 12,000 feet the world's highest capital city, Tiahuanaco, Bolivia's most important archaeological site, and enormous Lake Titicaca, legend-filled birthplace of the first Inca king.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trek in one of the most isolated and unpopulated mountain regions of the world!
  • Views include the spectacular snow-covered Illampu-Ancohuma massif and the sparkling waters of vast Lake Titicaca
  • Visit the cultural icons of Tiahuanaco, Copacabana, and Isla Del Sol for a glimpse into Bolivia's past and present
