New for 2008!

If you’ve ever wanted to be Odysseus—but without the trials—then this is your dream adventure. Aboard the luxury, twin-masted gulet Orfeus you’ll sail through the Dodecanese Islands, strung like pearls in the Aegean Sea between Greece and Turkey. By the light of rosy-fingered dawn you’ll glide past slumbering volcanoes where whitewashed houses and olive groves cling to rocky shorelines. By day there’s ample time to disembark and explore the rich history of the islands, from Venetian castles to the site of the ancient Greek Colossus of Rhodes. Traveling by boat is the only right way to see this sparkling archipelago: slip into the water for a quick swim or relax on deck and drink in the scenery along with your wine. We combine village tours with easy hiking—and even sea kayaking if you choose—to fully explore the ancient beauty of the dazzling Dodecanese.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sail the ancient Dodecanese archipelago on a luxury, live-aboard gulet
  • Visit ancient monasteries, Byzantine castles, Roman ruins, and medieval fortresses
  • Hike the volcanoes and olive groves—then cool off with a swim or a sea kayaking excursion in sparkling turquoise waters

Itinerary: Greece - Cruise the Dodecanese Islands

Day 1 Arrive in Athens and fly to the island of Kos, where you’ll board the yacht. Afternoon hike to Aesclepion, ancient home of Hippocrates.

Day 2 On the island of Nisyros you’ll hike to the volcanic-rim town of Nikia and explore the ancient monasteries and fortresses of Mandraki at the foot of the volcano.

Day 3 Cruise to the sparsely inhabited island of Tilos and tour the fortified monastery of St. Panteleimon.

Day 4 On the island of Symi you’ll hike steep slopes through picturesque villages. There are many fine churches here, as well as a monastery with a statue of the Archangel Michael.

Day 5 Morning cruise to the small island of Chalki, where you’ll explore heavy fortifications built during the Hellenistic period.

Day 6 Cruise to Rhodes, largest of the Dodecanese isles, where you’ll take a walking tour of the old city and visit the Palace of the Grand Masters of the Knights Hospitaller before returning to our mooring for the evening.
