Greenland’s Disko Bay Explorer
Day 1 - Arrive in Ilulissat (Jakobshavn), Greenland.
Day 2 - Explore Ilulissat, Greenland’s third largest town, then hike toward the stunning Kangai Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004. Along the way you’ll pass some old Inuit graves, the famed gorge known as Kællingekløften (Suicide Gorge), and see the ruins of Sermermiut, an important archaeological site going back nearly 4,500 years.
Day 3 - Board a small passenger ship for a cruise to Ice Camp Eqi, about 35 miles north of Ilulissat. Good chance to spot whales along the way! Once at the Ice Camp, you’ll hike to the moraines of the Eqi glacier for a breathtaking view of the glacier from above.
Day 4 - Follow in the footsteps of the famed French polar scientist Paul-Emile Victor for a hike along a historic trail to the Arctic Ice Cap, the second largest ice sheet in the world!
Day 5 - After a morning hike, board the ship back to Ilulissat.
Day 6 - Board a small charter vessel for a trip to the rarely visited village of Ilimanaq (Claushavn), passing the five-mile-wide face of the Kangai Icefjord and numerous giant icebergs en route. In Ilimanaq you’ll stroll past colorful houses, visit the church, the cemetery, and the community house, and just drink in the atmosphere of this idyllic place. Return cruise to Ilulissat.
Day 7 - Free day to shop, visit the museums, go back for another view of the unforgettable Kangai Icefjord, or other optional activities.
Day 8 - Depart Ilulissat.
