Isolated by great natural barriers, Tibet has always evoked a certain magic and mystery, and tantalized the imagination of the western world. Known as the "Roof of the World," Tibet's high and desolate plateau is hauntingly beautiful - a timeless setting dominated by an intensely blue sky and vast open spaces of clear light and pure color. Here the old ways truly thrive, with a unique and highly developed culture that has religion at its very core.

On this eye-opening journey you'll gain insights into the soul of Tibet as you explore the major religious monuments and "power places" of the country and meet the indomitable Tibetan people who maintain their spiritual identity in the face of overwhelming odds. A century ago, a visit to Lhasa took stamina, nerve, and a good deal of luck. Now it's considerably easier and the luck is all yours, with rewarding glimpses of a land and people unlike any other.
