Each winter, Mother Nature deposits a thick blanket of snow over the peaks of Northern Italy, freezing cliff walls and decorating imposing rock pinnacles with delicate ice crystals, creating an unblemished landscape few ever see up close. On this trip, we share the secret of exploring this fairytale winter wilderness. The best way to experience the tranquility of the snow-covered Dolomites is on foot. Here you will strap on snowshoes and walk quietly through deep snow so pristine you’ll feel like you’re the first ever to set foot in this wonderland. (And indeed, you’ll be making first tracks!)

There is something decidedly divine about Italy’s Dolomites. In summer, these unique rocks glow with pinks and yellows during sunset; in winter, the snow-covered peaks positively sparkle; and throughout the year, this beautiful valley offers comfortable mountain lodging with delicious Italian and Tyrolean cuisine. Every morning, you’ll awake to a sunrise that sets the snow on fire with its rosy glow, and we’ll trek to a different destination from our comfortable hotel base in Alta Badia, the heart of the Dolomites. You’ll experience the best of this magical region—the serenity of its wintertime beauty, the traditions of its agricultural culture, and the bounty of its delectable cuisine!
