Itinerary: Kenya Walking Safari - Walking with the Maasai
Day 1 - Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya.
Days 2-4 - Fly to the Maasai Mara, the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem, and enjoy three days of fabulous wildlife viewing. Morning and late afternoon game drives allow you to observe the extraordinary variety of wildlife that includes all the classic African species.
Day 5 - Drive to the southern foothills of the Loita Hills, the most remote and untouristed part of Kenya’s Maasailand, and meet up with the Maasai warriors who will accompany us on the days to come.
Days 6-11 - On trek through the Loita Hills, one of the last places on earth where Maasai customs and ways of life have not been influenced by western civilization. The hills are home to a wide variety of wildlife: we may see zebra, giraffe, bushbuck, hartebeest, wildebeest, gazelles, impala, colobus monkeys, and baboons on our walks. Elephant, lion and buffalo are resident, so we will be accompanied on our trek by spear-carrying Maasai warriors. We hope to have the opportunity to visit these hospitable people in their own villages (manyattas) as they engage in the routines of daily life. As we walk deeper into this remote region, access by vehicle becomes impossible, and a team of donkeys carries the equipment.
Day 12 - Arrive at Shompole Lodge, a luxury property located in a private conservancy at the foot of Nguruman Escarpment. It’s a great place to wind down after the trek and reflect on the previous week’s adventures!
Day 13 - A day to kick back, relax, and enjoy the surrounding of the lodge or do some game driving in this land of hills and mountain, lakes and streams.
Day 14 - Fly to Nairobi and depart.
