CROATIA: Kayaking the Dalmatian Coast The Elafiti Archipelago off the coast of Dubrovnik is a paddler’s haven of some 13 forested islands that lie scattered upon the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. This is one of the world’s most beautiful destinations for sea kayaking, with sunny sandy beaches, inland pine forests and woodlands, and delightful seaside villages that beg to be explored. Sobek co-founder John Yost fell in love with this area while scouting our new multisport in Croatia in 2007, and has designed this itinerary to especially appeal to Mountain Travel Sobek travelers. With John, you’ll paddle from one island to the next, taking time to explore inland lakes and ancient monasteries, stroll through fortified towns and countryside villages, relax on sandy beaches and in outdoor cafes, and enjoy some of the area’s noted seafood and wines.  CROATIA: Kayaking the Dalmatian Coast
Day 1 - Arrive in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Overnight in nearby Zaton Bay, a romantic residential area of Dubrovnik with seaside village pubs, fine beaches, and numerous walking and hiking paths. Day 2 - Warm-up paddle along Dubrovnik’s picturesque city walls, among the most intact ancient fortifications in the world (and one of the city’s best known landmarks), to Lokrum Island. Later in the afternoon, you'll take a sightseeing tour of Dobrovnik's Old Town and learn about its history, art, and architecture.
Day 3 - Paddle out into the Adriatic to Lopud Island, known for its casual and relaxed atmosphere. Day 4 - Journey by motorboat to Mljet Island and explore the forests and kayak on the inland saltwater lakes of Mljet National Park. Day 5 - Kayak to Korcula, a romantic looking island with tiny coves, secluded beaches, and a main town (also called Korcula) that is a typical medieval walled Dalmatian city with clusters of red-roofed houses. Day 6 - Paddle to Luka, a harbor on Sipan Island, the largest of the Elafiti islands and rich with cultural heritage. Day 7 - Paddle, swim, and snorkel around tiny Kolocep Island, the most exciting and dramatic island in the entire archipelago, with its hidden dark caves, towering cliffs, and colorful reefs. Day 8- Kayak along the mainland back to Zaton Bay, passing a variety of interesting geological formations that include dark caves, steep cliffs, turquoise bays, and hidden coves.
