And that’s just for starters. A three-day walking safari in the Serengeti—just recently allowed—gives you a chance to experience the real Africa, to revel in the smaller sights, smells, and feelings that are missed from a vehicle. You may find a lion’s paw print in the damp ground, watch a dung beetle laboriously rolling a ball of dung uphill, or smell a herd of elephants before you spot them in the valley below!  Itinerary: Ultimate Tanzania Safari - The Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater
Day 1 - Meet in Arusha, Tanzania. Overnight at Mountain Village Lodge, set on a tree-shaded coffee plantation. Days 2-3 - Explore little-visited Tarangire National Park, whose small permanent river attracts a multitude of thirsty animals the day long. Here you'll ease into the rhythm of the bush: you'll wake early to the chorus of the birds, spend the day exploring and observing wildlife, and thrill to the roars of lions in the night. Day 4 - Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, situated at the foot of a spectacular escarpment in the Rift Valley. The lakeshore teems with colorful water birds of every variety, and here you'll find one of the most fantastic hippo pools in Africa as well as the park's famous tree-climbing lions. Continue to Gibb's Farm, a delightful oasis in the midst of Africa. Day 5 - Hike to a Masai village in the forested highlands of Olmoti Crater where you'll be greeted with traditional welcome dances that include athletic leaps and earth-shaking stomping. Your trip leader will facilitate fascinating cultural interactions with these intriguing people. Day 6 - Fabulous game viewing on the floor of Ngorongoro Crater, a veritable "Garden of Eden." If you had only one day in your life to see African wildlife, Ngorongoro would be "the place." Day 7 - Descend from the Ngorongoro highlands onto the vast plains of the Serengeti, game viewing along the way. Once at camp, you’ll go for a short orientation walk to learn about walking in the bush. Days 8-10 - Walking safari through the Serengeti, moving slowly with the guide who interprets what you see and hear and stopping for lunch under a shady tree or cool overhang. Many of the places we hike have not been visited by man for more than half a century! On Day 10, meet vehicles and drive to a luxury tented camp. Day 11 - A day of traditional game viewing by vehicle, with the chance to see all the predators: lion, cheetah, hyena, jackal, and leopard. Day 12 - Fly to Arusha and depart.
