Zambia Safari: Walking in Zambia
Here's your chance to get in touch with the real Africa. Southern Africa’s best-kept secret is Zambia’s Luangwa Valley, an Eden-like paradise with huge concentrations of wildlife. This is where African walking safaris were born, and our new trip zeroes in on South Luangwa National Park, one of the greatest—yet least visited—wildlife sanctuaries in the world, with the lowest people-to-animal ratio in Africa! South Luangwa hosts large herds of elephant, buffalo, kudu, zebra, wildebeest, and giraffe, and is renowned for excellent leopard sightings. Game viewing by vehicle here is always superb, but on this safari you’ll also experience the freedom of Africa’s untamed wilderness as you explore on foot. Here you can enjoy a walking safari to remote bush camps in a recently opened area where hot showers, gourmet meals, and great hospitality await you! This is your chance to relive the past, to get in touch with the real Africa. The exclusive camps we use throughout are limited to just eight people each—ideal for those who seek an intimate wilderness experience.

Itinerary: Zambia Safari - Walking in Zambia
Day 1 - Meet in Lusaka, Zambia, and fly to Mfuwe, the gateway to South Luangwa National Park. Transfer to Mfuwe Lodge.
Day 2 - Explore the area around the lodge, which overlooks a lagoon that’s a prolific area for wildlife. In fact, the game watching is non-stop, as a parade of animals comes to drink from the channel in front of camp. Quite often, elephants walk right through camp!
Days 3-4 - Transfer to Kapamba Camp, a luxurious and romantic camp set on the banks of the Kapamba River in an untouched corner of South Luangwa. Activities at Kapamba include walks along the riverbanks and day and night game drives.Night drives with a spotlight are a special highlight: you may see lions on the kill, leopards on the prowl, aardvarks, or any of the other odd creatures that only come out during the African night.
Days 5-6 - Take an old-fashioned walking safari from one bush camp to another, each chosen for their scenic settings and proximity to wildlife. Along the trail, surprises are the order of the day: leaping impala, screeching baboon troops, loping giraffe!
Day 7 - Transfer back to Mfuwe, with an afternoon of game viewing, walks, or simple relaxation by the lodge’s pool.
Days 8-9 - Fly to Livingstone, located about six miles from Victoria Falls. The afternoon and next day are free to explore spectacular Victoria Falls or make optional excursions such as canoeing a peaceful stretch of the Zambezi River, taking the spectacular “Flight of Angels” over the falls, bungee jumping, or a thrilling whitewater rafting trip on the Zambezi River.
Day 10 - Depart Livingstone, or join one of our extensions in Southern Africa.
