Machu Picchu Travel in the Footsteps of the Incas

Machu Picchu. The very name conjures up ideas of the mystical, the eternal, the colossal. Hidden for centuries, its ridgetop aerie oscured from view by encroaching rainforest, this ancient Inca citadel remained largely unknown until its "rediscovery" by famed explorer Hiram Bingham at the beginning of the 20th century. Since then it has lured and entranced legions of visitors from all corners of the globe. There are few places so steeped in history—and mystery—as this Lost City of the Incas, and its ruins beckon us more and more with each passing year.

Machu Picchu is as much a part of our history at Mountain Travel Sobek as we are of hers. We were one of the first companies to offer Peru and Machu Picchu hiking and trekking tours, beginning in 1971 with the first circumnavigation of the Cordillera Blanca and shortly thereafter moving on to explore the Machu Picchu area in the mid-1970s, bringing many of the first U.S. travelers to experience this region. We continue to explore the Andes all the time, constantly looking for a new trek, an undiscovered ruin, or a different way to share the incredible cultural treasures of the Cusco region.

We offer the most comprehensive variety of Machu Picchu tours, with the largest number of options for you to discover Peru's Machu Picchu and her surrounding Inca Trails. Take on Machu Picchu trekking and hiking at the level of activity that works for you—trips range from easy to strenuous, and from five-star accommodations to tent camping. You can choose to enter Machu Picchu the traditional way, via a strenuous multi-day trek on the Inca Trail, or take it easy and get there by train. Whatever Machu Picchu trip you’ve been dreaming of, MTS has the Andean adventure you're looking for!
