Giving Back: Philanthropic Adventures in Fall 2017

Sharing special places with others has always been at the heart of what we do, and we believe that it’s important to give back to the places we visit—the places we rely on. Whether it’s supporting local communities, strengthening sustainable practices, or promoting environmental awareness there is always an opportunity to do more. That is why we’ve created six Fall 2017 departures that will directly help to fund six incredible organizations across the globe—all of which share our philanthropic mission. These include the US National Park Service, the John Muir Trust in Scotland, the Galápagos Conservancy, the Alaska Wilderness League, COCOBA (supporting Tanzanian women), and the Dolman Ling Nunnery in Kashmir. On each of these trips you’ll have the opportunity to experience local cultures, precious wildlife, and natural wonders, as well as learn more about the organizations themselves and how they are impacting change. Check out all six trips here:

Rafting Rivers in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Tucked away in Alaska’s far northeast, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is the northernmost—and largest—refuge within the United States. Since 1972, we’ve been running river trips on the Kongakut, Canning, Hulahula and Noatak Rivers that snake through the ANWR, always taking a Leave No Trace approach. However, the ANWR is under threat and we have teamed up with the Alaska Wilderness League to support their sustained efforts to conserve land and beat back attempts to drill. We will donate 10% of the trip price per guest on all Summer and Fall 2017 departures of our ANWR river trips.

Summit Kilimanjaro
This September we are offering an all-women climb to the top of Kilimanjaro, the “roof of Africa” to raise funds for COCOBA. COCOBA or Community Conservation Banking, is directly helping Tanzanian Maasai women to open small, environmentally friendly businesses. Livestock is the major source of wealth for the Maasai, so leather tanning is a natural business for these women to learn. They will learn to tan the leather and to produce finished products with it, some with beadwork, for sale in both the local and tourist market.
