Duration: 6 days Start Location: Kathmandu End Location: KathmanduDownload Detailed Itinerary
Days 1 - 2 : Arrive in Kathmandu (4,500') / Walk to Lakhuri Bhanjyang (6,600')
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, after proceeding through customs and immigration, you will be met by your guide and our office representative and then transferred to Summit Village Lodge (6,000'), an hour's drive through the lovely countryside. Located south-east and around 1300 feet above the valley, the view from here and the peaceful environment is most welcoming after a long flight.
Day 3 : Walk to Bhaktapur
From the lodge, we make our way down hill, towards Bhaktapur, crossing different ethnic villages, until we reach Surya Binayak (Temple of Ganesh). From here we cross over to the town of Bhaktapur. This Newari city, once the capital of the present-day Kathmandu Valley during the Malla Kingdom, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is often considered to be the best surviving example of ancient Nepali architecture. It is also still lived in and we therefore get a real taste of how things must have been in medieval times. Most of its buildings have their origins in the 15th century and virtually all its streets are brick-paved. After spending time exploring Bhaktapur, we are transferred back to the Lodge. (Walking time: 3 hours; driving time: 2 hours)
Day 4 : Walk to Godavari
Walk from Dhungen to Lamatar village, criss-crossing different ethnic villages along the way. We will then be picked up at Godavari and drive to Patan. The city of Patan is also known as ‘Lalitpur’ – the town of beauty. The name is justified by ancient art and architectural design found in numerous temples and palaces in Patan Durbar Square, the palatial area of Patan. (Walking 3-4 hours)
Day 5 : Sightseeing in Kathmandu
Today we explore the Hindu shrines and ghats at Pashupatinath on the Bagmati River and the large Buddhist stupa at Bodhnath, center of Tibetan Buddhist culture in Kathmandu. The afternoon is free to do some last minute shopping in Thamel. Drive back to the Lodge. In the evening the group will gather for a farewell dinner.
Day 6 : Departure
You will be transferred to the Kathmandu Airport for your departure flight.
