Botswana Webinar on YoutubeWildlife viewing in Botswana is always exceptional, but it’s at its peak during the dry season, when flood levels drop and animals gather around the remaining waterways. Our hand-tailored itinerary lets you take full advantage of the season’s abundance. You’ll stay at carefully selected camps in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve and the Okavango Delta, offering a vast diversity of bird and animal life (including a number of rare species). Since no Botswana safari is complete without water activities, we’ve included camps that are surrounded by water, so you can get up close to elephants and crocodiles on serene mokoro rides through the channels. With MTS, you’ll experience Botswana at its most enchanting.

If you'd like to stay longer, we offer an amazing extension trip to Victoria Falls—one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World! Optional activities at Victoria Falls include strolling through lush, tropical vegetation, rafting on the Zambezi River, elephant-back safaris, microflights over the falls, bungee jumping, and more. Please call for extension information.

Day 1: Fly from Maun to the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve

Welcome to Botswana! Please plan to arrive in Maun by 1:30pm. You will be met by your Mountain Travel Sobek trip leader and escorted to your awaiting light aircraft transfer to the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your camp and settle in before beginning your first afternoon safari activity.

Set in the 125,000-hectare Linyanti Concession bordering Chobe National Park, Linyanti Discoverer Camp is your base from which to explore this enormous wildlife-rich area. Unrivalled in its remoteness and space, the concession is bisected by an ancient watercourse—the now-flowing Savute Channel. Your innovative accommodation is in 6.3 metre x 3.5 metre (20.67 feet x 11.48 feet) walk-in wooden framed canvas sided tents. The tents are airy and designed to recreate the accommodation style of the early explorers, with richly coloured teak director chairs and minimalist interiors. Separate bedside tables with 12-volt reading lamps, canvas and wood wardrobes, bathrobes, comfortable beds and mirrors are provided. Private, en-suite separate toilet and showers form part of the structure. Paraffin hurricane lanterns and a crackling campfire set the ambience in the evening, while fresh, sumptuous meals are usually prepared around a fire by warm and friendly camp staff.

  • Accommodation:Linyanti Discoverer Camp

Days 2-3: Explore the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve

These days you have game drives and safari activities in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. The landscape of Linyanti is diverse, from floodplains to open dry-land savannah and woodland with sweeping views. Wildlife includes the seldom-seen sitatunga that can be spotted in the waterways, as well as rare roan and sable antelope, plains game and of course their predators, the lion and leopard—with the endangered wild dog as an incredible bonus. Activities include game drives in the private northern sector of the concession, exploring a range of habitats, from riverbanks to scrub and forest as well as a full day excursion with lunch at a remote scenic setting.

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
  • Accommodation:Linyanti Discoverer Camp

Days 4-6: Enjoy the game-rich Santawani Concession

Board your charter flight to the Santawani Concession in the southeast Okavango Delta. Upon arrival you will be transferred overland to your safari camp, nestled under large acacia trees in a diverse and game-rich area. Most of the Santawani Concession is comprised of a mixed woodland habitat and open grasslands that are transformed into floodplains in years of plentiful water.

Your activities here will focus on day and night game drives as well as pristine nature walks. The alluvial sands in these areas are very fertile, resulting in good grass growth, which attracts a multitude of grazing animal species. Wildlife is plentiful and includes leopard, lion, wild dog, cheetah, giraffe, elephant, and masses of general game.

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
  • Accommodation:Gomoti Tented Camp

Days 7-8: Discover the Jao Concession, deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta

Fly to the Jao Concession where you will enjoy two days of water-based safari activities. Pelo Camp is a tented, mobile camp in the heart of the Jao Concession in the Okavango Delta. Given its situation on a small island surrounded by permanent water, the area is perfect for mokoro activities in the open, shallow floodplains. The main area comprises a tented dining area and lounge situated under impressive wild date palms, jackalberry and Natal mahogany trees. Five spacious guest tents have en-suite bathrooms and a covered front veranda. A zipper door separates the sleeping area from the bathroom which has a flush toilet and bucket shower, as well as running water in the basin.

Pelo means ‘heart’ – a fitting name indeed, given the island’s heart shape and location deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta. While poling quietly around the channels, guests have the chance to see elephant, hippo, crocodile and lechwe, as well as the exciting and rare sitatunga. Birding is outstanding, with specials like lesser jacana, slaty egret and wattled crane readily spotted.

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
  • Accommodation:Pelo Camp

Day 9: Fly to Maun and depart

Fly to Maun where you will connect with your departing flight home. Or if you'd like to stay longer, we offer an amazing extension trip to Victoria Falls—one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World! Optional activities at Victoria Falls include strolling through lush, tropical vegetation, rafting on the Zambezi River, elephant-back safaris, microflights over the falls, bungee jumping, and more.
