Day 1: Welcome to Tanzania!

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. You’ll be met and transferred to Machweo Wellness Retreat, a boutique spa and lodge located on a hill above the Maasai steppe, overlooking Mount Meru. The spa’s facilities include a steam bath, sauna, and separate swimming pool. Enjoy a variety of relaxing treatments in the Hippo Pool Banda, around the swimming pool, or in your own room.

Day 2: Take a thrilling game drive in Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, drive to Mto wa Mbu village for a cultural tour. Get an up-close look at the community with visits to homes and farms, and browse the market for woodcarvings and other local crafts. In the afternoon, take a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, a small but wildlife-rich gem that Hemingway called “the loveliest place I have ever seen.” Watch for lions roaming the park, flamingos covering the alkaline lake, and troops of baboons foraging and playing in the tropical jungle. In the evening, transfer to Acacia Farm Lodge, a romantic country lodge strategically located near the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 3: Experience the legendary Ngorongoro Crater

Today, enjoy a full-day game drive along the floor of the legendary Ngorongoro Crater, which holds an abundance of wildlife within its natural enclosure. You’re likely to see all of the “Big Five” here, as well as notable birds like the Vereaux's Eagle and Rosy-breasted Longclaw. Return to the lodge in time for sundowners.

Day 4: Go deep into Serengeti National Park and tour the Oldupai Gorge

This morning, head into the famous Serengeti National Park. Enjoy a tour and lecture at Oldupai Gorge, one of the world's most important prehistoric sites, and learn why it’s referred to as the “Cradle of Mankind.” Then, continue on to Ang'ata Camp in the Central Serengeti. Depending on the time of year, your accommodations may be in the Ang'ata Migration Camp on the migrations route in the northern tip of the Serengeti.

Days 5-6: Enjoy magical game drives in the Serengeti

Experience the magic of the Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives. Serengeti means “endless plain” in Maasai, and it is here that the annual Great Migration of wildebeest and zebras begins. You’ll be amazed by the density of predators and prey as you watch golden-maned lions stalking the migrating herds, and spot leopards at rest in trees at dusk. You can even take a hot-air balloon tour at dawn as the sun’s first rays brighten the landscape.

Day 7: Fly to the UNESCO-listed Selous Game Reserve

Fly to Selous Game Reserve and drive to Lake Manze Tented Camp, in the heart of the reserve’s best game-spotting area. This lodge is simple and rustic, offering a true bush adventure without foregoing creature comforts such as en suite bathrooms and running water. Dining is a wonderfully casual affair, as uninvited, inquisitive guests like elephants and giraffe often drop by.

Selous is one of only three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Tanzania and is true, untamed wilderness—Africa as it has always been. This afternoon, enjoy a game drive or a boat safari along the Rufiji River.

Day 8: Spot an array of wildlife in beautiful Selous

Acacia Farm Lodge — Karatu

Acacia Farm Lodge is a romantic Country Lodge nestled in an active mixed farm located high on the spectacular Great Rift's escarpment area with a commanding panoramic views of the amazing Karatu farmlands and the nearby Ngorongoro forest area. The Lodge is strategically located between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks on one side and the Serengeti—Ngorongoro ecosystem on the other side. Lake Manze Tented Camp — Selous

Lake Manze Camp is set right in the heart of the best game are in the Selous Game Reserve. The camp has 12 meru style tents all with lake views, slightly raised on earth mounds which are covered in bush vegetation. Unlike many of the other camps and lodges in the Selous, Lake Manze has decided, to a degree, to go primitive, coping with no electricity and using simple candles and lamps, although this is rather contradicted by having flush loos and running water in your bathrooms. Still, you are allowed a few luxuries in the bush. Dining at the camp is a delightfully casual affair, which is great as there are often uninvited, inquisitive wild life like the elephants and giraffe. Game drives and boat tours are the highlight here, making it a fun camp to visit.
