New! Yellowstone & the Grand Tetons

Trip Length 7 days

From $3,395

  • Explore two incredible national parks in the course of a week, from the spires of Grand Teton to the prismatic wonderland of Yellowstone
  • See amazing wildlife freely roaming in the landscape, including elk, moose, and bison—and maybe even a brown bear or a pack of wolves!
  • Witness the spectacle of nature erupting at Yellowstone's most famous geyser, as well as the backcountry Lone Star Geyser

See Wyoming in all its natural glory during this one-week adventure that takes you through the celebrated national parks of Yellowstone and Grand Teton! Here you’ll experience rugged wilderness and incredible geothermal features as you journey deep into their protected environments. Wildlife spotting is top-rate too, and you're likely to glimpse elk, moose, and herds of bison. If you're lucky, you might even spot a brown bear or the wolves of Mollie's Pack (from a safe distance, of course). Yellowstone was created to protect nearly 500 geysers, and you'll see the best blow off some steam: Old Faithful and Lone Star. From the popular attractions to the park's backcountry, we'll show you the best the parks have to offer.

Day 1: Welcome to Jackson Hole!

Arrive in beautiful Jackson Hole, with its Western mountain-town vibe, and settle into the comfortable Lexington Hotel. Those who arrive earlier can spend the afternoon sight-seeing in town or checking out Snow King Ski Resort—Jackson Hole has some of the best skiing and hiking in the West. This evening, the group will get together for dinner on the town square.

  • Dinner
  • Accommodation:Lexington Hotel

Day 2: Explore the Grand Tetons

Start the day with a morning tram ride from Teton Village to the top of Rendevous Mountain, from where we'll take in 360-degree views of the Snake River Valley, the Grand Tetons, and the Gros Ventre Range in the distance. After returning to the valley floor, we'll drive over to Grand Teton National Park, where we'll see the best of the park on a scenic wildlife safari. The day will be filled with a variety of short hikes as we make our way through the park to our lodging at Flagg Ranch, nestled between Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park.

(Hiking distance: 4 miles; Driving time: 2 hours)

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
  • Accommodation:Headwaters Lodge & Cabins at Flagg Ranch

Day 3: Feel the rush on geyser day

We'll head into Yellowstone National Park right after breakfast so we can beat the crowds to our first stop: Old Faithful Geyser. After watching the famous eruption, we'll hike into the solitude of the backcountry to see the spectacular Lone Star Geyser. This is one of the best eruptions in the park, lasting about 25 minutes, and it's the perfect opportunity to enjoy a picnic lunch. After returning to the trailhead, we'll explore Grand Prismatic Springs and other roadside attractions, and we'll end the day with a swim in the Firehole River, which is surrounded by geothermal features.

(Hiking distance: 7 miles; Driving time: 4 hours)

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
  • Accommodation:Headwaters Lodge & Cabins at Flagg Ranch

Day 4: Go wildlife watching in Yellowstone

This morning will find us once again in Yellowstone National Park. We'll drive along Yellowstone Lake before arriving in the wildlife hotspot of the Hayden Valley, where you'll likely see river otters, trumpeter swans, and big bison herds. Your guide will try to locate Mollie's Pack—Yellowstone's resident wolf pack—and possibly a grizzly or two, which we'll view from a safe distance using spotting scopes.

From here, we'll explore the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, hiking Uncle Tom’s Trail and enjoying views from Artist’s Point. But the day isn't over yet! Next up, we'll cross Dunraven Pass and view the wildlife of the Lamar Valley, completing the Upper Loop on our return trip.

(Hiking distance: 2 to 3 miles; Driving time: 6 hours)

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
  • Accommodation:Headwaters Lodge & Cabins at Flagg Ranch

Day 5: Return to the Tetons

After our big day of Yellowstone exploration, we'll enjoy a more leisurely morning, starting the day with a ranger-led hike in the Grand Teton National Park. After lunch at the scenic Dornan’s restaurant, we'll embark on an afternoon rafting adventure on the Snake River. Let the river guide do the rowing as you take in mountain views that you can't get from the road, and spot wildlife including moose and eagles. Afterwards, we'll enjoy a riverside barbecue dinner before returning to Flagg Ranch.

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
  • Accommodation:Headwaters Lodge & Cabins at Flagg Ranch

Day 6: Hike the Terraced Falls trail

Now that we’ve checked Yellowstone's biggest destinations off our list, we'll take a bumpy dirt road at the park’s southern boundary to get to a remote and beautiful area of the park. As we walk along the Cascade Acres to Terraced Falls, expect to see dozens of magnificent waterfalls and virtually no other people. We'll arrive back at the ranch on the early side, and you can spend the afternoon reflecting on your journey while taking in views from the bank of the Snake River. Or, if you want to stay active, there's an option for an afternoon horseback ride. End the evening with a farewell dinner.

(Hiking distance: 6 miles; Driving time: 1 hour)

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
