A quick getaway with gentle walks and visits to places of cultural interest in the Kathmandu Valley. The breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas presents us with one of nature’s finest backdrops and we explore the colorful communities with their unique cultures. Daily walks are planned into verdant rural landscapes, passing through pretty villages and meeting local people going about their daily lives. Walk to the ancient town of Bhaktapur, where one can still see the traditional architecture and artisans at work. Stay in a charming lodge out of the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.
 

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu (4,500')

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, after proceeding through customs and immigration, you will be met by your guide and our office representative and then transferred to Summit Village Lodge (6,000'), an hour's drive through the lovely countryside. Located south-east and around 1300 feet above the valley, the view from here and the peaceful environment is most welcoming after a long flight.

Day 2: Walk to Lakhuri Bhanjyang (6,600')

We take an early hike up to Lakhuri Bhanjyang which lies perched atop the pristine hill of Pokhari Thumko, lt is located at an altitude of 6,600'.  This vantage point commands the panoramic views of the snowy mountain peaks and the valley below, Walk through villages and meet the locals going about their daily lives.  (Walking time:  3-4 hours)

Day 3: Walk to Bhaktapur

From the lodge, we make our way down hill, towards Bhaktapur, crossing different ethnic villages, until we reach Surya Binayak (Temple of Ganesh).  From here we cross over to the town of Bhaktapur. This Newari city, once the capital of the present-day Kathmandu Valley during the Malla Kingdom, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is often considered to be the best surviving example of ancient Nepali architecture. It is also still lived in and we therefore get a real taste of how things must have been in medieval times. Most of its buildings have their origins in the 15th century and virtually all its streets are brick-paved. After spending time exploring Bhaktapur, we are transferred back to the Lodge.  (Walking time:  3 hours; driving time:  2 hours)

Day 4: Walk to Godavari

Walk from Dhungen to Lamatar village, criss-crossing different ethnic villages along the way. We will then be picked up at Godavari and drive to Patan. The city of Patan is also known as ‘Lalitpur’ – the town of beauty. The name is justified by ancient art and architectural design found in numerous temples and palaces in Patan Durbar Square, the palatial area of Patan. (Walking 3-4 hours)

Day 5: Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Today we explore the Hindu shrines and ghats at Pashupatinath on the Bagmati River and the large Buddhist stupa at Bodhnath, center of Tibetan Buddhist culture in Kathmandu. The afternoon is free to do some last minute shopping in Thamel. Drive back to the Lodge.  In the evening the group will gather for a farewell dinner.

Day 6: Departure

You will be transferred to the Kathmandu Airport for your departure flight.

DAILY itinerary
