Mountain Travel Sobek has been chartering the polar waters for over 25 years in search of rare wildlife and progressive adventure.
Our Page in Polar History. In 1989, an MTS group became the first Americans (along with the first woman ever) to reach the South Pole, via ski expedition across the Antarctic continent.
Fine-tuned Adventures. Over the years, we've crafted our charters around the best each polar season has to offer. In winter, visit the “Last Continent” Antarctica during its austral summer, breeding season for penguins, sea birds, seals, and whales. In summer, head north for the Arctic—land of the midnight sun—to seek polar bears, reindeer, walruses, and the narwhal.
Nimble Expedition Vessels. Aboard small, highly navigable icebreaker vessels (not behemoth a cruise ship), we’ll navigate fjords of glaciers and hop into Zodiacs and kayaks to head ashore and experience wildlife up close.
Comfortable Quarters. Accommodations aboard our ice-class expedition ships (including a former Russian spy ship) are comfortable, but not plush. You'll be spending most of your time exploring outdoors: kayaking, skiing, hiking – even camping on the ice.
