Vibrant Mexico is a fascinating blend of spectacular nature, amazing cuisine, and ancient but well-preserved Mayan sites, including majestic Tulum and sacred Chichen Itza. In the country's colonial heartland you can experience the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city of San Miguel de Allende and explore the central highlands, where millions of monarch butterflies gather in the forests of Michoacán. On the Yucatan Peninsula, you can relax on white-sand beaches, snorkel pristine waters, and enjoy private guided tours of incredible ancient ruins. In Chiapas, you can raft the scenic waters of the Lacanjà River, visit the ancient Mayan sites of Yaxchilán and Palenque, and wander the colonial town of San Cristóbal de las Casas—set in a beautiful mountain valley. Then there is Oaxaca, steeped in time-honored traditions, isolated by a ring of rugged mountains, and home to Monte Albán, Mesoamerica's oldest city, and Mitla, with its unique stone fretwork. A short plane ride away is Baja, where you can explore the Sierra de la biosphere reserve, surf some of Baja’s best breaks (suitable for beginners), and snorkel and kayak in the Sea of Cortez, dubbed the “aquarium of the world” by Jacques Cousteau. Mexico really has it all and, with tourism to Mexico on the rebound, our tip is to get back there before the crowds do.
We have six fantastic adventures in Mexico and a special Day of the Dead trip in October 2016. This is the return of Mexico!
