Named for its discovery by Dutch explorers on Easter Sunday, it’s known to its Polynesian residents as Te Pito o Te Henua, “The Navel of the World.” The island is legendary for the 900 massive stone busts, known as moai, that guard its slopes. Why they were built is unknown, and their inscrutable faces offer no clues. Come explore the island’s volcanic terrain by bicycle and on foot, snorkel and fish its pristine reefs, and meet the descendants of the ancient Rapa Nui civilization on a unique adventure deep into the past and far off the map.

Day 1: Fly to Easter Island from Santiago

Fly to Easter Island from Santiago. Upon your arrival you will be met and transferred to our luxurious hotel, perfectly located for island adventures. During your stay, you can choose from more than 15 different explorations offered by the hotel–the following itinerary is just a sampling. Our hotel is built into the island’s volcanic rock in the traditional style. In addition to its lovely guestrooms, reception area and bar, we encourage you to take advantage of its pool, outdoor Jacuzzis and spa. Each afternoon, one of the guides will meet with you in the lodge bar to tell you about the adventures planned for the following day. They will help you with the challenging task of choosing between all of the exciting options!

Day 2: Sights of Easter Island

See the sights of Easter Island by bicycle as you ride on gently sloping terrain, with Pacific Ocean views stretching to the horizon. Learn about the flora and local agriculture from experts, and get your first view of the enormous moai and other archaeological remains. Many routes are available at different levels of difficulty, which makes them ideal for the whole family. We highly recommend biking to the town of Hanga Roa, five miles from the lodge, or to the beautiful nearby Oahe and Anakena beaches. Biking bring us up close and personal with the beautiful landscapes and the majestic moai. The routes have different levels of difficulty, which makes them ideal for the whole family to enjoy, and the hotel provides all the equipment you may need.

Day 3: Choose from a Range of Excursions

Choose from a range of excursions using traditional local boats. The journey along the coastline and to nearby islands lets you see the island in the same way as the first mariners who arrived from Oceania and Europe. Snorkelers can explore the world’s most transparent waters, rich in corals and sea life. There is also an opportunity to go tuna fishing, practicing the traditional methods used by the locals for centuries. The hotel will provide you all the equipment you need.

Day 4: Trekking on Rapa Nui

Trekking on Rapa Nui lets you to talk to the locals more easily and openly than you could on any other type of exploration. You’ll get know the geography of the island, its volcanoes, cliffs and beaches, and important archaeological heritage sites. There are many options and levels of hikes to choose from, adjusted to the rhythm of each guest.Trekking on Rapa Nui not only gives you a greater understanding of your surroundings but also enables you to talk to the people of the area more easily and openly than you could on any other type of exploration. You’ll have a chance to get intimate with the geography of the island, its volcanos, cliffs and beaches, and important archaeological heritage sites such as the moai and the ahus, the ceremonial platforms on which they are situated. We always seek to adjust to the rhythm of each person and will help you find the easy or moderate hike that suits you best.
