Raft, Kayak, Swim & Snorkel the Dalmatian Coast

 

Set off on a fun family adventure along Croatia's captivating coastline, dotted with idyllic islands, fragrant pine forests, and ancient towns. Visit 2,000-year-old Diocletian's Palace in Split, then take a ferry to the hidden jewel island of Vis. Enjoy stand-up paddle boarding, and take in panoramic views of the sweeping Adriatic from the top of Mount Hum. Swim and snorkel in emerald coves, and boat to the rugged cliffs of Bisevo Island to dip into the Blue Cave's shimmering waters. Raft the Cetina River, swim under waterfalls, and enjoy the brilliant turquoise waters. End your adventure with a visit to Kotor, Montenegro and kayak along the shore before returning to our final night in Dubrovnik.

  • Arrive in Split, Croatia

    Day 1

    Arrive in Split, a UNESCO heritage site and one of the most magnificent Dalmatian coast towns dating back to Roman times. Stretch your legs on an afternoon 'gelato' walk of the old town and Diocletian Palace. Sample an array of traditional Dalmatian dishes at your welcome dinner.

    Accommodation: Hotel Marul

    Culture lovers will enjoy a stay at the four-star Hotel Maruk In the historic heart of Split. The hotel's 14 comfortable and well-appointed rooms exude an age-old charm, and is only a 7 minutes' walk from Diocletian's Palace, the former residence of the Roman emperor. Head to the balcony for great views overlooking old part of town and hotel's lovely garden.

  • Ferry from Split to Vis Island

    Day 2

    In the late morning, you'll take a ferry transfer from Split to the picturesque island of Vis - a true gem of an unspoiled Mediterranean, and location of the movie Mamma Mia 2. Hop in a 4WD LandRover and discover the island's historic post-World War II secret locations. Head through vineyards and carob groves up to Mt. Hum (1,925'). Along the way, stop at a charming cove for an afternoon swim in crystal blue waters.

    Accommodation: Pomalo Guesthouse

    Situated on the small island of Vis, known for its stunning beaches and small fishing villages, the Pomalo Guesthouse is a hidden gem seeping with charm. Guestrooms feature air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, and a private bathroom. Every room has a town view.

    Activity: 3.5-hours 4WD LandRover-supported tour with short walks and optional swimming

    Transportation: 2.5-hour ferry transfer

  • Vis Island Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Day

    Day 3

    Set off to the wild and spectacular southeastern coastline of Vis, well protected from the prevailing winds. We'll scout out emerald coves with SUP boards, supported by a private boat where you can sunbath or rest. Swim and snorkle in the purest waters of the Croatian Adriatic. Relax with a picnic lunch and beach games on a secluded beach.

    Situated on the small island of Vis, known for its stunning beaches and small fishing villages, the Pomalo Guesthouse is a hidden gem seeping with charm.     Activity: 1-4 miles SUP depending on preference

    Transportation: 20-minute private van transfer & 6 hours/6-8 miles private boat ride

  • Hike and Swim Vis and Bisevo Island

    Day 4

    Explore the Adriatic today starting at the lovely settlement of Komiza-on-the-Sea, where the largest fishing community in Dalmatia once lived. Board a private boat and visit the famous Blue Cave situated on the small nearby island of Bisevo. Afterwards hike 1.8 miles across the island to meet local fishermen, swim, and snorkel in sheltered coves before our boat takes us back to Vis.
    The afternoon and evening are free to enjoy the vibrant old town of Vis.

  • Raft the Cetina River

    Day 5

    Take a thrilling family-friendly river rafting excursion on the Cetina River! Paddle Class I-II rapids through this limestone canyon, swim under waterfalls, and enjoy the brilliant turquoise waters. Afterwards we continue to Dubrovnik, the "Pearl of the Adriatic." Survey the old town on an afternoon walk before dinner.

    Accommodation: Hotel Neptun

    With a prime location on Dubrovnik's Riviera. Hotel Neptun boasts spectacular views overlooking the sea and the Elaphite Islands. Enjoy Hotel Neptun's bright and modern décor, indoor and outdoor pools, spas, and restaurants and bars.

    Activity: 6-miles/4-hours class I-II river rafting

    Transportation: 1.5-hours catamaran transfer, 3.5 hours private van transfer

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Kayak in Bay of Kotor or Explore Dubrovnik

    Day 6

    Today we enjoy a day trip to Montenegro! Visit the fascinating Bay of Kotor, and paddle along Montenegro's coastline surrounded by dramatic peaks of the Dinaric Alps. Take in the UNESCO-protected town of Kotor with its marvelous architecture and unique culture. Return to Dubrovnik in the late afternoon.

    Or, if you prefer a full day of leisure, you may opt to stay in Dubrovnik to stroll the walled city, or simply enjoy the hotel's splendid outdoor swimming pools (a cliff-top pool and a pool for children) or onsite spa treatments (extra fee).

Irena Silic

Irena cannot live without two worlds: nature and art. She grew up between Slovenia and Croatia where she developed a love of nature, mountains and the sea. Today she is inseparable from outdoor life, and enjoys life as an adventure travel guide, and skiing and rock climbing instructor. In her spare time she is devoted to the art world, where she produces visual art events in Slovenia and abroad. Irena's expert guiding knowledge, coupled with her love of art, makes her an interesting and fun travel companion on explorations through Slovenia.

Anze Princic

Anze Princic

As a child, Anze joined the scouts where he found his passion for adventure and outdoors. If it's not wandering through the Georgian Caucasus or tasting delicacies on an Iranian local market, he is testing his limits and endurance on Slovenian ground. During the time he is not working as a tour guide, he is the head of a fantastic team of people, working in one of the most famous Slovenian mountain huts in the center of Triglav national park.

Activities

Kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), swimming, snorkeling, 4WD touring, boat trips, class I-II river rafting, and light hikes.

FAQ

Who will meet me on arrival?

You will be met by your guide or an MT Sobek representative at the Split International Airport (SPU) upon arrival and transferred to our group hotel in Split.

What makes this trip a family adventure?

This trip includes plenty of fun and adventure, but with slightly shorter days than our normal MT Sobek trips. Family trip leaders have ample experience guiding both children and adults.

What is the kayaking like on this trip?

We have both single and double, very stable sea kayaks. In addition to your tour guides, we will also have a professional kayak guide. The water is calm and this activity is suitable for beginners.

What is the river rafting like on this trip?

We will raft in 4 to 6-person paddleboats on class I-II rapids. The rafting is suitable for young people and beginners.

What kind of food can we expect in Croatia?

Healthy, locally-sourced, organic meals that include meats (red meat and poultry), fish and seafood, and an abundance of produce, all seasoned with local herbs and olive oil. Nearly all diets can be accommodated.

Is the water warm enough for swimming?

The water in the Adriatic Sea in summer is perfect for swimming. It is about 70ºF, or even a little warmer.
