Meet Our Guides

Our expert guides and trip leaders are truly the key to our trips' success. Many are locals who live in-country year-round; others have made it their second home—all are passionate, enthusiastic and endlessly knowledgeable. Meet a few of the guides that might be on your trip.

What To Expect

  • Activities

Hiking through stunning alpine scenery, culture and history tours, gondola rides, and museum visits.

  • Lodging

European-style hotels with swimming pools (where possible) in charming mountain towns, and traditional mountain huts - a true Alpine experience!

  • Climate

Summertime in Austria can be quite warm, but the mountains have their own weather system. Be prepared for daytime temperatures in the 70's or 80's, but with the possibility of rain or even snow. Bring your layers!

  • Who will meet me on arrival?

You will be met by your guides or an MT Sobek representative at the Munich International Airport in the morning of Day-1. We'll make our way to downtown Munich to meet guests who arrived early.

  • What makes this a family adventure?

This trip includes plenty of adventure, with the intention of bringing families together in the outdoors. Our family trip leaders have experience guiding families. We select accommodations that we hope kids will enjoy and offer meals that are healthy and appealing to younger folks.

  • Is it possible to skip a day of hikng?

This trip is designed for people who intend to hike each day. If there is an exceptional case where someone needs a lift, we can arrange for a taxi transfer.

  • Do you provide hiking poles for this trip?

We do not supply hiking poles. If you prefer to use hiking poles, we recommend that you bring your favorite pair from home, or plan to purchase poles on arrival in Munich.

  • Are there hairdryers at the mountain huts?

Mountain huts do not typically provide hairdryers. We recommend that you bring a small, lightweight travel hairdryer with an electrical adapter, or else skip the shampoo and use a hairband during the day.

  • Do we need to bring our own sleeping bags for the mountain huts?

You do not have to bring a sleeping bag. You will be sleeping in beds with blankets.
