Welcome to Bozeman, Montana a historic gateway town on the edge of forest and mountain wilderness. Upon arrival in Bozeman, take a complimentary shuttle transfer to the hotel. Meet up with the group for orientation and a welcome dinner at 6pm.
After breakfast we head to the nearby Museum of the Rockies to view the largest T-Rex fossils in the world. The museum is home to one of the largest collections of North American dinosaurs, including many examples of the gigantic carnivorous Tyrannosaurus Rex, the horned Triceratops and a collection of prehistoric mammals.
Following our museum visit, we will drive two hours to the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. After a quick photo stop at the historic Roosevelt Arch, the original entrance to Yellowstone, we will continue into the park. This afternoon we explore the steaming terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs. Be on the lookout for elk which are frequently spotted on the lawn near the hotel and Visitor's Center. Next we head to the the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to view Upper and Lower Falls and hike a trail along the rim of the canyon. In the evening check into Canyon Lodge, our home for the next two nights.
After breakfast this morning, we head out to explore the geyser basins which are home to half of the world's geysers. Old Faithful is certainly the most famous geyser, affectionately known for it's predictable eruptions. Old Faithful erupts every 60-110 minutes. We will explore the Technicolor wonderland of other geysers, hot springs and view the spectacular Grand Prismatic Spring.
Late this afternoon we search for wildlife in Hayden Valley, one of the best places in the park to spot wildlife.
After breakfast this morning, we will head out kayaking on Yellowstone Lake. Yellowstone Lake is the largest lake in the country above 7,000 feet, offering boundless opportunity to paddle away from the crowds. After a brief instruction on kayaking, the equipment and techniques, we will paddle along the shoreline to the West Thumb Geyser Basin where there are many geothermal features on land and under water. Many of these geothermal features are not accessible by any other means. Continue on to the remote Potts Geyser Basin, rarely seen by park visitors. We stop along the way for a secluded beach picnic before returning to the marina in the early afternoon.
After kayaking, we will have a two hour scenic drive through Grand Teton National Park to our hotel in Teton Village. Freshen up and join the group for dinner at the Mangy Moose.
After breakfast this morning, we head into Grand Teton National Park for a day of outdoor adventure and fun with a day of rock climbing. The day begins with a scenic ferry ride on Jenny Lake and a short hike to the climbing location. Learn the basics of rock climbing and test your new skills climbing and rappelling under the watchful eye of our professional climbing instructors. Rock climbing is a great bonding experience with interactive problem solving of natural obstacles making for a fun and rewarding adventure.
This evening we head into downtown Jackson for dinner and the rodeo. Rodeo has been a part of Jackson Hole's cowboy culture since the first settlers arrived over 100 years ago. This evening, experience a taste of the Wild West with bull riding, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, team roping and rodeo clowns.
This morning experience whitewater rafting on the Snake River through the Snake River Canyon. This stretch of river features eight sets of rapids ranging from class I to class III. On this exhilarating adventure all rafters should be prepared to paddle, however, it is more fun than strenuous. The Snake River Canyon is rich in geological history and your guide will point out some of the features that make this canyon unique. Watch for river otters, osprey and bald eagles along the way. After rafting enjoy lunch in downtown Jackson and there will be time to explore some of the town and soak in the relaxed mountain-town vibe.
Late this afternoon we head to a nearby family run ranch for a horseback ride into the Bridger Teton National Forest. On horseback we climb 2000 vertical feet where we are rewarded with amazing views of the Snake River Canyon and the Teton Range. We return to the ranch for a hearty cowboy cookout, live music and barn dance.
Enjoy a farewell breakfast before transferring to the Jackson Hole Airport for homebound flights.
