Check out our latest COVID-19 information and FAQs. MT Sobek is ready to get you on the trail.

COVID-19

The Public Health Emergency for COVID-19, declared by the World Health Organization and the US Department of Health and Human Services, expired May 11, 2023. As of trips departing June 1, 2023 onwards, we will no longer require our guests to test for COVID-19 if they exhibit flu-like symptoms during the trip. Should anyone choose to test for COVID-19 and test positive during the trip, they will be subject only to local protocols.

It is each person’s responsibility to take precautions to protect themselves and others from COVID-19, and other potentially contagious illnesses, before the trip and while traveling with MT Sobek. We recommend purchasing trip insurance to help protect your travel investment. Learn more about our travel protection plan provided by Arch RoamRight.

Please keep in mind that most insurance companies are now treating COVID-19 the same as any other illness during the claims adjudication process. This means that when filing a claim, an Attending Physician Statement (APS) form will be required defining the diagnosis, treatment and the medical condition as it relates to travel.

There is an assumption of risk when traveling in general and traveling within a group. We encourage you to review our Code of Conduct, to ensure everyone is treated with kindness and respect. Please also review our FAQs below.

Our COVID-19 policies are subject to change and will be updated as new information becomes available.

What happens if I decide to postpone my trip even though MT Sobek is still planning to operate the trip?

All MT Sobek guests are subject to the payment and cancellation terms agreed to at the time of reservation. This includes any guest who opts to cancel an operable trip due to COVID-19. Please refer to your invoice for the terms and conditions that apply to your booking. We recommend that all guests purchase insurance.

Do you require guests and guides on your trips to be vaccinated for COVID-19?

We no longer require proof of COVID-19 vaccination from guests, guides or other staff. We recommend our guests to be fully vaccinated and to always purchase travel protection.

How do I know if my destination has COVID-19 related entry requirements?

We recommend checking with the embassy periodically for the latest updates. Your Adventure Coordinator will provide updates when they send your final details email about 3-4 weeks before departure.

What if someone exhibits flu-like symptoms on my trip?

If anyone exhibits flu-like symptoms on a trip, as a courtesy, we recommend wearing a mask when indoors and in close proximity to your fellow travelers. If you are concerned about another guest’s flu-like symptoms, you may opt to wear a mask or distance yourself as needed. MT Sobek will continue to follow any regional requirements.

If I’m quarantined during or after the trip, who will pay for my accommodations?

In the event a physician recommends you discontinue travel or not join your MT Sobek trip due to COVID-19 or other illnesses, we recommend trip insurance to help protect your travel investment. Learn more about Arch RoamRight’s Travel Insurance here. Many of the travel restrictions and requirements no longer in effect, COVID-19 will be treated the same as any other illness during the claims adjudication process. Most insurance providers have international assistance that can help with quarantine arrangements, and can advise you what you need to initiate a claim. This is the best place to start.

By placing a deposit and/or final payment on this departure you agree to our full Terms & Conditions and understand that if MT Sobek must cancel or postpone a trip due to force majeure (war, labor strikes, wildfires, earthquakes, flooding, epidemic, a major world event adversely affecting international travel patterns, etc.), MT Sobek may provide a future travel credit or in some cases, refund the portion of the trip cost that is recoverable after using good faith efforts to recover payments already advanced to suppliers (hotels, transportation companies, etc.)

MT Sobek does not guarantee recovery of any or all of the advance payments made, and our use of good faith efforts to recover these payments will not include the institution of any legal proceedings in foreign jurisdictions.

MT Sobek is not responsible for expenses incurred by trip members in preparing for a canceled or postponed trip (e.g., non-refundable purchase of air tickets, visa fees, inoculations, equipment, etc.) or for any additional arrangements should the trip member depart prior to the scheduled group departure date.
