Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about MT Sobek? We’ve got answers!

What is the class of sleeping accommodations on MT Sobek trips?

Where else to stay when visiting the Grand Canyon but perched on the North Rim of this natural wonder? How better to appreciate the fjords of Norway than to slumber in a brightly colored fisherman’s cottage by the water’s edge? Or to spot the “Big Five” from your luxury safari camp’s private veranda? We seek out small boutique hotels and lodges that treat you to the “must-have” experiences of the region. Browse the class of accommodations that fit your traveler’s needs.

Hand-Picked Accommodations Adventure Tours | MT Sobek – MT Sobek

What if my clients have never camped before?

If this is your clients’ first time camping on an MT Sobek trip, they may be pleasantly surprised. Many of our African safaris offer elegant, spacious tents complete with beds, fine linens, and private, en suite bathrooms. For our backcountry camping trips, we provide nearly all the gear: roomy backpacking tents, sleeping pads, communal dining areas, solar or bucket showers, and even toilet tents. In most cases of backcountry camping, the guides will set up camp and prepare all meals. As part of the camping experience, guest may be asked to set up their own tent and to pitch in with basic camp chores.

Can my clients upgrade or change accommodations?

Our accommodations have been carefully selected for both their comfort and convenience for each day’s planned activities. On our group trips, it is not possible for your clients to upgrade or change lodging. However, our private and custom trips can be planned to suit your clients’ accommodation preferences. Please speak with your Trip Consultant to discover the options for your clients’ trip.

How should I ensure I am booking the right clients on the right active adventure?

The Trip Consultant handling your booking will work with you to discuss the entire trip experience and collect the appropriate fitness information. They may provide specific questions for you to ask your clients and report back. In some cases, the Trip Consultant may ask to speak directly with the client to help assess whether this is the adventure they are looking for.

When will I receive my client’s pre-travel documents for their trip?

Once your clients have booked, they will receive detailed pre-trip information including packing lists, suggested reading, advice on getting in shape, and much more. The final departure information is provided to all guests approximately 3 weeks prior to departure, including details about their adventure guide and emergency contact for all accommodations.

Can I book pre-and post-trip extensions for my clients with MT Sobek?

Once your clients’ trip has been confirmed to go, they are welcome to book their flights as well as any pre-or-post trip extensions. Some of our trips offer suggested extensions that are the perfect way for travelers to further explore the destination. Please contact your Adventure Coordinator for further information on options and activities specific to your clients’ trip.

Do I need to register my agency with MT Sobek?

We will assist with registering your agency when you call our office to make your clients’ reservations. Please be prepared to provide an IATA/ARC number and a W9 form. If you would like to register your agency in advance or wish to sign up for our Adventure Journal Newsletter, or if you have any questions or need further assistance, please reach out to our Director of Travel Industry Relations, Aimee Graham.

Do you offer Familiarization Trips?

MT Sobek is proud to offer Familiarization (FAM) Trips to our Travel Advisor network. We post upcoming trip offerings in our Adventure Journal Newsletter – our National Sales Manager, Aimee Graham, can set you up. All trips are subject to availability and are designed for Advisors to gain a better understanding of MT Sobek’s heritage, operations, guides, guests, and adventure experience.

Do you offer online training?

MT Sobek offers periodic webinars highlighting trip regions, activities, and detailed trip knowledge. If your agency would like to request a training experience catered to your team’s needs, please contact TravelProfessionals@mtsobek.com.

What is the minimum number of guests for a private FIT or private group adventure?

MT Sobek specializes in custom itineraries to almost every destination that we travel to. We do not require a minimum guest count to create a custom trip. However, we do require that an MT Sobek adventure guide accompany every group. At this time we do not offer self-guided tours.

What happens if the clients I am working with book with MT Sobek directly?

We understand that sometimes guests book with us directly but would prefer the service and convenience of working with a travel advisor. Your clients may contact us within 14 days of making their reservation to request that their preferred travel advisor take over the booking.
