Tour du Mont Blanc FAQs
The Tour du Mont Blanc is one of Europe’s most famous trekking routes, and availability is limited due to high demand. Hotels and mountain refuges along the world-class trail book up quickly—often months in advance. As a trusted outfitter, MT Sobek secures reservations at the best available accommodations so you can experience this legendary trek without the hassle of planning logistics. We have dates from June to September.
Most hikers complete the circuit in 10-12 days, allowing time to experience the diverse landscapes and cultures of France, Italy, and Switzerland. MT Sobek offers multiple trip options, including a full 12-day classic trek and an 8-day express version for those with limited time.
In 2025, MT Sobek offers two ways to experience the Tour du Mont Blanc:
Alps Tour du Mont Blanc Classic – 12 Days
The full experience—hike the entire loop through three countries, crossing breathtaking alpine passes, charming villages, and spectacular valleys. Includes a mix of classic inns, comfortable lodges, and rustic mountain refuges.
Alps Tour du Mont Blanc Express – 8 Days
A condensed version of the trek, featuring the six most scenic days on the route, still circumnavigating the Mont Blanc Massif, but with some transfers to maximize the experience in a shorter timeframe. Perfect for those seeking a challenge with limited vacation time.
The prime hiking season runs from mid-June to mid-September. Here’s what to expect:
June: Cooler temps, blooming wildflowers, fewer crowds. Some higher passes may still have snow.
July & August: Warmer weather, longer days, and peak season for hikers. Most popular time to go.
September: Crisp autumn air, fewer people on the trails, and a hint of fall in the foliage.
All MT Sobek Tour du Mont Blanc trips start and end in Chamonix, France. Completing the Tour is defined by circumnavigating the Mont Blanc Massif from any one point. We choose this celebrated town because it embodies the rich spirit of mountaineering and adventuring in the Alps while also offering the well-deserved comforts of excellent accommodation. Chamonix’s neighbor, Les Houches, is the traditional start and end point of the Tour.
Fly into and out of Geneva, Switzerland (GVA)—just 90 minutes from Chamonix.
Expect well-maintained, well-trodden mountain trails, alpine passes, rocky sections, and rolling meadows. The terrain varies daily, with some steep ascents and descents. You’ll hike through forests, valleys, and high mountain landscapes with stunning panoramic views. Depending on recent weather, you may walk through muddy, snowy, and slippery sections of the trail.
This is a Level 4 trek—best suited for experienced hikers comfortable walking 8-12 miles per day with 2,000-4,000 feet of elevation gain. Good cardiovascular fitness is key, and training with back-to-back hiking days before the trip is highly recommended.
Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with ankle support are highly recommended for hiking Mont Blanc trails.
