How many days should I hike the Tour du Mont Blanc?

In 2025, MT Sobek offers two ways to experience the Tour du Mont Blanc:

Alps Tour du Mont Blanc Classic – 12 Days 
The full experience—hike the entire loop through three countries, crossing breathtaking alpine passes, charming villages, and spectacular valleys. Includes a mix of classic inns, comfortable lodges, and rustic mountain refuges. 

Alps Tour du Mont Blanc Express – 8 Days 
A condensed version of the trek, featuring the six most scenic days on the route, still circumnavigating the Mont Blanc Massif, but with some transfers to maximize the experience in a shorter timeframe. Perfect for those seeking a challenge with limited vacation time.

What is the best time of year to hike the Tour du Mont Blanc?

The prime hiking season runs from mid-June to mid-September. Here’s what to expect: 

June: Cooler temps, blooming wildflowers, fewer crowds. Some higher passes may still have snow. 

July & August: Warmer weather, longer days, and peak season for hikers. Most popular time to go. 

September: Crisp autumn air, fewer people on the trails, and a hint of fall in the foliage.

All MT Sobek Tour du Mont Blanc trips start and end in Chamonix, France. Completing the Tour is defined by circumnavigating the Mont Blanc Massif from any one point. We choose this celebrated town because it embodies the rich spirit of mountaineering and adventuring in the Alps while also offering the well-deserved comforts of excellent accommodation. Chamonix’s neighbor, Les Houches, is the traditional start and end point of the Tour. 

What airport should I fly into and out of for the Tour du Mont Blanc?

Fly into and out of Geneva, Switzerland (GVA)—just 90 minutes from Chamonix. 

What is the terrain like on the Tour du Mont Blanc? 

Expect well-maintained, well-trodden mountain trails, alpine passes, rocky sections, and rolling meadows. The terrain varies daily, with some steep ascents and descents. You’ll hike through forests, valleys, and high mountain landscapes with stunning panoramic views. Depending on recent weather, you may walk through muddy, snowy, and slippery sections of the trail. 

How do I know if I’m fit enough for the Tour du Mont Blanc? 

This is a Level 4 trek—best suited for experienced hikers comfortable walking 8-12 miles per day with 2,000-4,000 feet of elevation gain. Good cardiovascular fitness is key, and training with back-to-back hiking days before the trip is highly recommended. 

What kind of boots do you recommend for the Tour du Mont Blanc? 

Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with ankle support are highly recommended for hiking Mont Blanc trails.  

What will the weather be like? 

Weather in the Alps is unpredictable! Be prepared for: 

– Sunny days in the 60s-70s°F (15-25°C) 
– Cool mornings and evenings in the 40s-50s°F (5-15°C) 
– Be prepared for possible rain showers, wind, and even hail or snow throughout the summer season

MBX (Express Tour du Mont Blanc – 8 Days): Covers the six most spectacular hiking days with some transfers to reduce overall hiking time. You will experience a new location every evening in the traditional spirit of the Tour.
