Travel Insurance

Help Protect Your Adventure

MT Sobek trips take you far from home—often across borders, into remote terrain, and through complex logistics that can involve flights, permits, transfers, and carefully timed connections. When something unexpected happens, the costs and complications can be significant. Like any major purchase, your trip is worth protecting – and travel insurance can help safeguard that investment if unexpected issues arise. Many US health insurance plans offer limited or no coverage overseas, so we recommend reviewing your current coverage and considering travel insurance for added peace of mind while abroad. Travel insurance helps you manage that risk so you can focus on the journey.

Along with familiarizing yourself with our cancellation policy, we encourage guests to consider travel insurance to help protect their plans if unexpected changes arise.

Why It Matters for Active Travel

Adventure trips involve more variables than a standard vacation. Remote destinations, extreme conditions, pre-trip training and back-to-back logistics mean there’s more that can go wrong —and fewer easy fixes when it does. Travel insurance isn’t just a formality. It’s part of traveling smart.

Offered exclusively to MT Sobek guests, our Arch RoamRight Travel Insurance Plan  helps safeguard your travel investment with coverage for cancellations, interruptions, emergency medical evacuation, and other unexpected situations that may arise before or during your trip. This plan is built for trips like ours—active, international, and full of moving parts.

Once you are booked on your trip, contact your Adventure Coordinator to request a personalized quote. With the exception of NY residents, this exclusive plan may only be purchased directly with MT Sobek—either at the time of booking or to follow, and up until 10 days prior to travel. Purchasing the plan within 14 days is highly recommended to be eligible for the Pre-Existing Conditions exclusion waiver.

What Travel Insurance May Cover

  • Trip cancellation or interruption â€” Recoup prepaid, unused non-refundable costs if you need to cancel or cut your trip short due to a covered reason
    • Example: If you become ill or injured before departure or need to return home early due to a covered family emergency, your plan may help cover unused trip expenses
  • Emergency medical expenses â€” Coverage for illness or injury while you’re in the field, including evacuation if needed
    • Example: If you need treatment at a local hospital or transportation to a higher level of care, travel insurance may help with those costs
  • Travel delays â€” Help with additional expenses if flights or connections don’t go as planned
    • Example: If a missed connection forces an overnight stay, your plan may help cover lodging, meals, or other eligible delay-related costs
  • Baggage loss or delay â€” Reimbursement for lost, stolen, or delayed gear and luggage
    • Example: If your luggage is delayed en route to your destination, you may be able to claim the cost of essential clothing or gear purchases
  • Travel assistance â€” On-call support to help you navigate unexpected situations in unfamiliar places
    • Example: If you need help finding medical care, replacing travel documents, or coordinating emergency arrangements, assistance services may be available

When to Purchase Travel Insurance

Although the Arch RoamRight plan may be purchased up until 10 days prior to travel, here are a few timing considerations we recommend keeping in mind when purchasing travel insurance:

  • We recommend purchasing travel insurance as soon as possible after booking your trip. Purchasing early can help put important benefits in place sooner, including trip cancellation coverage, which begins once the plan is purchased.
  • We highly recommend purchasing your plan within 14 days of your initial trip deposit to help preserve eligibility for the Pre-Existing Conditions Exclusion Waiver, when applicable.
  • Arch RoamRight offers a 14-day money-back guarantee, which gives you time to review the plan and cancel for a full refund if you have not departed on your trip or filed a claim.
