Safe Travel Requirements

COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing

Adventure Confidently with MT Sobek

MT Sobek has developed and implemented enhanced sanitation and distancing protocols to help keep our travelers, guides, and local communities healthy and safe. We share with you our current protocols for vaccination and testing implemented on all of our trips. We look forward to welcoming you on your next adventure.

In addition to upholding these standards, our requirements are expanding as of November 1, 2021 to take advantage of the wider availability of vaccines. The health of our guests, adventure guides and local communities is of paramount importance to us.

Staying Healthy

On all trips, we require:

  • All guests 5 years old and over to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • All guests under 5 years old to get tested within 72 hours prior to travelling with us on any trip, regardless of regional entry requirements. You can find the testing site closest to you here. As COVID-19 vaccinations become available for younger guests, we will require those guests be vaccinated as well.
  • For guests 5 and over, please upload your vaccination record into your guest portal. For guests under 5 years old, please upload your negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours of trip start. The proof should include your name, indicate the test type (must be PCR), the date of the test, and the result.

For the safety of our guests, guides, and the residents of the places we visit, if you cannot provide any of these documents, you will not be allowed to participate.

Additional Information

What vaccinations or tests do I need for my MT Sobek adventure?

For trips departing November 1, 2021 onwards we require all guests 5 years of age and older to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. For guests under 5 years old, testing is required within 72 hours prior to travelling with us on any trip, regardless of regional entry requirements. If you have recovered from COVID-19 within the past 3 months, you will be required to present your CDC-compliant documentation of recovery from your physician in lieu of vaccination or PCR test results.

What does it mean to be fully vaccinated? What if I will not be fully vaccinated before my trip departs?

CDC guidelines state that you are fully vaccinated when 14 days (2 weeks) have passed since the second dose of a 2-dose vaccination (Pfizer, Moderna) or after first and only dose of a single-dose vaccination (Johnson & Johnson). Please call your Adventure Coordinator if you are not sure you will be fully vaccinated by the time your trip departs.

What proof do I need to provide?

For guests traveling November 1, 2021 and onwards, please upload your proof of vaccination or PCR test to your MT Sobek guest portal or provide to your Adventure Coordinator when requested. For vaccinated guests, your CDC vaccination card complete with your name, the brand of vaccine, and the dates administered will provide proof of full vaccination. For guests arriving with a negative PCR result, the digital or print results page should include your name, indicate the test type (must be PCR), the date of the test, and the result. For guests traveling with proof of recovery from COVID-19 within the past 3 months, you can bring documentation of recovery from your physician that meets the CDC guidelines. For the safety of our guests, guides, and the residents of the places we visit, if you cannot provide any of these documents, you will not be allowed to participate.

Will MT Sobek help me get tested?

Where possible, we will facilitate testing that is required during your MT Sobek trip and required by the CDC to re-enter the U.S. following an international trip. If you intend to continue your travels independently, your Adventure Coordinator and local Adventure Guides can provide you resources to help you get the testing you need.

What happens if I test positive right before my trip?

Contact your Adventure Coordinator to discuss your options. Comprehensive travel insurance generally considers COVID-19 a covered reason for cancellation or postponement (please check with your travel insurance provider). We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance.

What if I do not want to get tested?

If the country you are visiting requires a negative test as a requirement of entry, you will not be allowed to travel to that country. If the destination does not require proof of a negative PCR test, you do not need to provide proof of a test if you can instead provide proof of full vaccination or your physician's documentation of recovery. For the safety of our guests, guides, and the residents of the places we visit, if you cannot provide any of these documents, you will not be allowed to participate.

What if there isn't any testing available to me?

Testing capability has expanded significantly and is now available at many retail pharmacies and health centers, including national chains like CVS (Target) and Walgreens. You can view the full list by state here. If you are unable to find testing locally, LabCorp is offering at-home test kits that provide results within 1-2 days of receiving the test. Visit their website to learn more or request a kit. In many cases, proof of full vaccination will suffice. For some destinations, both vaccination and negative PCR result will be required.

Do these requirements apply to custom and private trips?

Yes, these requirements apply to all departures of any MT Sobek trip.

Are the requirements different between domestic and international trips?

Our goal is to adventure safely. To that end, we believe it is important to ensure we are supporting the health and safety of our guides, staff, and guests, in addition to that of the many people we may come across in our travels, including hotel staff, drivers, and the locals of the places we visit, Our requirements apply to both domestic and international trips, but specific destinations may have additional requirements. We use the resources at the U.S. State Department and the CDC to keep up to date with changes. Please see the entry requirements page for information specific to the destination.

What are your requirements if I am not a U.S. citizen?

Our requirements are the same regardless of residency. Travel, exit and entry requirements for your country of residency may differ. Please consult your country’s health authority for specific information.

Are the guides and other field staff going to be vaccinated or tested?

Yes. We will require our Guides and Leaders to get vaccinated in those regions where vaccines are accessible to them. In countries where vaccines are not accessible to them, Guides and Leaders will be tested prior to the trips and will apply appropriate protocols including the use of masks and distancing.
