FAQs
Who will meet me on arrival?
We recommend guests arrive in Grand Junction, CO the day prior to Day 1 of the itinerary due to the early pick-up time. Your guides will meet you on Day 1 at Grand Junction Airport (airport code: GJT) at 10:00am in the main terminal baggage claim.
When is the best time to hike in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks?
The best seasons for hiking in Arches and Canyonlands are spring (March–May) and fall (September–October), when mild temperatures make exploring the trails most enjoyable. Summer heat often soars above 100°F, while winter brings cold, snow, and possible trail closures. MT Sobek's guided tours are perfectly timed for April, May, September, and October to take advantage of ideal conditions.
What is the best footwear for hiking in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks?
Sturdy, closed-toe hiking boots or trail running shoes with good traction are recommended for hiking in Moab. Lightweight hiking boots or trail running shoes are suitable for most trails, while boots offer more ankle support for challenging terrain. Whatever footwear you choose, ensure they are well-broken in and comfortable for you. Sand Gaiters are a nice addition for hiking in Moab. They prevent sand from getting into your footwear.
How should I train for my Southwest trip?
The best training is hiking. Work up to hiking similar distances with your daypack loaded with the same weight you will be carrying on your day hikes.
What kind of wildlife am I likely to see?
Wildlife commonly seen includes: Mule Deer, Utah Prairie Dogs, Chipmunks, Golden-mantled Ground Squirrels, Pronghorn (antelope), Gray Fox, Ravens, Steller's Jays, Clark's Nutcrackers, Red-tailed Hawks, Turkeys, and Mountain Short-horned Lizards. Black Bear, Elk, and Mountain Lions are rarely seen.
What is the minimum age for this trip?
The standard minimum age for these trips is 18. Families with fit younger teens may consider private and custom trip options.
