FAQs
Who will meet me at the airport?
While we're happy to arrange a fully escorted tour, many travelers love the freedom of a self-drive adventure, traveling scenic roads at their own pace in a comfortable rental car, stopping at hidden gems, and lingering where the views are most inspiring.
What is the food like in Wyoming and Montana?
Expect hearty Western fare in Montana and Wyoming, from sizzling steaks and bison burgers to homemade huckleberry pie and cast-iron skillet breakfasts—local flavors that fuel every adventure. We can recommend many great restaurants along the way, just ask us!
What is the best time to travel to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks?
The ideal time to embark on a Yellowstone National Park adventure and Grand Teton National Park wildlife tour is from late May through early October. During this period, Montana travel offers the most reliable weather and full access to outdoor adventure activities such as hiking, kayaking, and wildlife viewing.
Late spring, from late May to June, is a beautiful time to visit as wildlife is highly active, waterfalls are at their peak due to snowmelt, and wildflowers begin to bloom across the landscape. However, some higher elevation trails may still be snow-covered, and the weather can be unpredictable.
Summer, particularly July and August, is the most popular season for a Yellowstone National Park tour. The weather is warm and dry, all park roads and trails are open, and it's the best time for kayaking on Yellowstone Lake and hiking in Jackson Hole. This is also the busiest time of year, so expect larger crowds.
Early fall, from September to early October, brings cooler temperatures, fewer visitors, and vibrant fall foliage. Wildlife is still active, especially during the elk rutting season, and the lighting is ideal for photography. While some services begin to wind down by mid-October, this season offers a quieter and more peaceful outdoor adventure experience.
Do you have winter tours in Yellowstone?
MT Sobek offers Custom Yellowstone Winter Adventures, where you can set off on a dogsledding tour in Paradise Valley, travel by snow coach to witness Old Faithful erupt, or embark on a winter wildlife safari. Send us a Custom Trip Request and we’ll contact you with more information.

Can I make this trip fully escorted with a Private guide and vehicle throughout?
Yes, absolutely! If you're looking for a seamless and stress-free experience, we can customize your itinerary to include a dedicated private guide and vehicle for the entire duration of your adventure. This means everyone in your group gets to truly relax and enjoy the journey. Your through-guide will handle all logistics and navigation, while you may also meet local specialists along the way for unique activities like wildlife safaris, kayaking, or cultural experiences. Speak with your Custom Travel Consultant to design a fully escorted trip tailored to your interests and travel style.
Are there other places I could visit while in the area?
Yes! With more time, there are several incredible destinations you can add to your itinerary while exploring the Yellowstone and Grand Teton region. Consider visiting Mount Rushmore in South Dakota for a dose of American history, or head to Cody, Wyoming, known for its rich Western heritage and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. If you're looking to extend your Montana travel experience, Glacier National Park offers breathtaking alpine scenery, dramatic hikes, and the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road. Each of these locations complements your outdoor adventure and adds depth to your journey through the Northern Rockies.
