Mike was nice enough to answer a few questions for us.

Mike Augustine, Travel Advisor from Mountain Travel Sobek

Mike A

Q: Hi Mike! How long have you worked as a travel advisor for Mountain Travel Sobek?

Mike: “I have worked for Mountain Travel Sobek for just under a year now (my work anniversary is in March).”

Q: What’s your story?

Mike: “I’m from a small town in Ohio called Greenville (the home of Annie Oakley), where my passion for travel grew from classic American camping trips with my family to National Parks. I loved traveling so much in my youth that I took a gap year in college to backpack through Europe on a shoestring budget, which was the best education I could ever receive. I loved doing  it so much that I did a second time before graduating college, and I wrote a short travel guide as a special project with a focus on World War II battlefields.  I’ve worked in travel for over a decade now, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about your role?

Mike: “I enjoy planning fun adventures to get people into our beautiful National Parks, which I think are greatly underappreciated and often overlooked for travel destinations.”

Q: What’s your favorite trip to sell? Why?

Mike: “I love to design trips to Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks. They are truly spectacular destinations, and you can have a really fun adventure on so many different levels. You can hike up mountains, raft down rivers, learn about American history, experience a true western trail ride, spot incredible wildlife, and see the universe in all of its glory on truly dark nights. I’m a firm believer that we can reset ourselves with quality time in these special places.”

Q: What do you do in your free time?

Mike: “I travel, hike, collect vinyl, read, play strategy games (RISK is my favorite), or study World War II history.”

Q: What’s a recent trip you’ve been on?

Mike: “We went on an adventure trip to Belize where we explored a Mayan cave system and snorkeled at the Belize Barrier Reef.”

This is an example of Mike’s excellence, as mentioned in Travel+Leisure’s A-List article:

“A client’s recent trip through Montana and Wyoming included all the iconic sights of Yellowstone and Grand Teton—but Augustine also worked in visits to a state fair and a rodeo. Stays at luxury properties like Montana’s Green O and Montage Big Sky are par for the course.”

“We put together an amazing Montana trip. We topped it off with an amazing back-country yurt dinner. This was a true Montana experience away from the crowds!”
