Know Before You Book
Accommodation: The national park accommodations on this trip provide great access to the top activities in the area. However, they are simpler compared to what we usually consider comfortable lodging and the rooms being more basic. Some buildings date back to the early 1900s and have been minimally renovated to follow park regulations. Overall, the service might feel slower and meal quality and selection much more limited compared to other MT Sobek trips. Keep in mind that internet and cell phone service are very limited throughout the parks.

Your Guides
The best people to immerse you in a destination are the ones who live there, which is why we feature local Adventure Guides on our trips. Here are a few that you might meet on this adventure.

Bridger B.
Bridger grew up in Salmon, Idaho, along the banks of the Salmon River. He guided his first multi-day rafting trip at just 15 and has been on the water ever since. Since that first trip, he’s guided rivers from the Tatshenshini in Alaska and Canada to the Rio Grande through Big Bend National Park on the Texas-Mexico border. Bridger has been certified as a Wilderness First Responder and Swiftwater Rescue Technician for the past six years, and he plans to continue expanding his skills in emergency medicine and technical outdoor training. Today, he still calls Salmon home and he proudly holds the title as the worst player on the local beer league hockey team.

FAQs
This spectacular hiking adventure allows you to see Wyoming's most magnificent natural wonders through America's first National Park, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Park. You will experience rugged wilderness, incredible geothermal features, and enigmatic wildlife in the company of expert guides.
Iconic Hikes and Sights: You will summit Mount Washburn, float down the Snake River, and witness Yellowstone's geysers, such as Old Faithful, blow off some steam.
Epic Wildlife: The Lamar Valley is often referred to as "America's Serengeti" due to its abundant population of large animals. You can expect to see herds of bison, and maybe even spot a bear or a wolf.
In-Park Stays: Classic park accommodations get you close to the trailheads and are part of the National Park experience.
From June through September, park roads, trails, the parks have their best weather and each month has its own appeal. Because these parks rest at high elevations, the weather can shift quickly at any time during the season.
June to Early July - Wildflowers & Baby Wildlife: This is the best window for photographers and nature lovers. Meadows are filled with blooming wildflowers, roaring waterfalls run at peak snowmelt, and newborn bison calves and bear cubs are active in the valleys, all with fewer visitors on the trails compared to high summer.
July & August - High Summer: While visitation typically peaks in July and August, you can expect the warmest weather, dry alpine trails in Yellowstone, and crystal-clear views of geothermal basins like Grand Prismatic Spring during these popular hiking months.
September - Fall Colors & The Wildlife Rut: September features cooler yet pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and stunning golden quaking aspens. It also marks the start of the wildlife rut, where bull elk and bison put on dramatic mating displays, and bears may be spotted foraging before winter.
This trip’s Level 3 rating reflects moderate active challenges combining daily hikes on varied terrain with high-altitude mountain environments. You should be prepared for full days of physical activity, hiking over uneven trail surfaces, and getting in and out of a raft on the final morning. This trip is designed for active enthusiasts seeking rewarding day hikes balanced with comfortable lodge stays.
Moderate Elevation Gain and Loss: Daily routes are moderate with more challenging days on the 1,394' ascent of Mount Washburn and 800' climb up Elephant Back Mountain. This trip requires good physical fitness, steady balance, and stamina for back-to-back days of hiking.
High-Altitude Hiking: Yellowstone sits above 6,000 feet, with one hike reaching up to 10,000 feet. The thinner air at these elevations makes uphill stretches feel significantly more strenuous than at sea level.
Consecutive Active Days: You will be active for 3 to 8 hours a day across consecutive days. While trails are often broken up with scenic rest stops, sustained daily output requires good stamina and quick recovery.
Varied Mountain Terrain: Trails present a dynamic mix of geothermal boardwalks, dirt forest paths, loose rock, and steep switchbacks. Some trails also feature moderate exposure to heights along mountain ridges.
The Weather Factor: High-country weather in the Northern Rockies can shift rapidly from intense sun to wind, rain, or sudden thunderstorms. Big temperature swings are standard, and high-elevation snow is possible during any month of the season.
