Welcome to the Alaskan frontier! Upon arrival at Fairbanks airport, board the courtesy shuttle and travel the short distance to tonight's accommodations. After settling in, relax on the riverside deck, take a stroll through the botanical gardens, and finish the evening with a savory dinner at Pikes Restaurant- next door to the lodge.
After an early breakfast, meet your driver in the lobby and travel south on the Glenn Parks Highway to Denali National Park, a beautiful drive full of scenic vistas. Keep that camera handy! After dropping bags at the hotel, meet your MT Sobek guide for an afternoon hike into Denali National Park's front country. The exact trail will vary based upon weather and your desired activity level today. Stop at the park's visitor center for an introduction and then hit the trail, keeping an eye out for the hardy plants that thrive in the alpine as well as moose and Dall sheep.
Get an early start to board a shared shuttle bus for a full day exploring Denali National Park. Accompanied by a certified naturalist, hear stories of the park's history while driving all 92 miles of the Park Road, through high tundra and along the foothills of mountains. Try to spot grizzly bears, caribou, Dall sheep, and even illusive wolves. After lunch at a backcountry lodge, choose to take part in a gold panning demonstration or a guided nature walk. This afternoon, take to the skies in a Cessna wheel plane for a birds-eye view of the awe-inspiring Alaska Range. Cross the North Face of Denali and over the north side glaciers (weather permitting - though every flight is scenic!) before arriving back at the depot with time to explore.
Those wishing to hike will meet their private guide for an easy walk along the Byers Lake shoreline, learning about native animal and plant life. Those who wish to kayak will glide across Byers Lake's tranquil waters on sit-on-top kayaks after a brief paddling demo. This afternoon, travel one hour south to Talkeetna and check into tonight's accommodations.
Today offers the choice of fresh water fishing or experience the forest canopy by zipline! Those who wish to fish will meet their private guide to fish for Sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, arctic grayling, and more. All gear is provided from the comfort of a covered, heated boat protected from the elements. For those wishing to zipline, depart the lodge this morning for Denali Park Zipline and cross a series of zips and bridges connecting towering platforms ascending higher and higher through the canopy. All equipment is provided, and no experience is necessary. Return to the lodge in time for lunch, and explore Talkeetna independently this afternoon.
After checking out of the lodge, meet a private driver in the hotel lobby. Travel south on the Parks Highway to Anchorage International Airport for homebound flights.
