The MT Sobek Experience

MT Sobek pioneered Patagonia adventure tours with our first commercial Patagonia trekking trip in the 1970s. Today we offer a range of classic hiking adventures that showcase the best of Patagonia, from Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park to Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park and the fabled W Route—one of the world’s top 10 treks—plus expedition cruising around Cape Horn. Along the way, you’ll enjoy an immersive experience as you explore hidden places and meet local people. We also make sure that you eat great food and sleep well in comfortable accommodations, while we take care of the logistics every step of the way. Expert Guides

Our hiking and cruising adventures in Patagonia are guided by local professional guides, who are highly trained in safety procedures and follow Leave No Trace principles. As well as being fun and friendly, they’ll give you an immersive, insider experience—both on and off the beaten path. Many are so popular that people return to hike with them year after year!

On the Trail

There is nothing better than being out on the trail in Torres del Paine or Los Glaciares, feeling the breeze on your face and the rush of a spectacular view. Hiking days generally start early, after breakfast, and cover around 5 to 15 miles per day. Some days may include steep mountain paths, but there are plenty of rest stops on the way—plus a hearty lunch and dinner (per your itinerary).

Cruise Cape Horn on the new Ventus Australis, a 210-passenger expedition vessel, tailor-made for exploring the remote southern tip of South America. Designed for the extreme maneuverability needed to navigate narrow fjords and channels, the ship also features gourmet dining with an all-inclusive bar, three lounges, an open top deck, and spacious light-filled cabins.

Plan Your Trip

We offer a range of active adventures in Patagonia, and our goal is to make it easy to find the perfect itinerary for your desired destination and skill level. Here’s a handy guide from our trusted team of adventure experts.

Choose Your Adventure

There are three main ways to explore Patagonia: by foot on a hiking adventure; on a multi-adventure with hiking, kayaking, and horseback riding; or on a small-ship cruise (with a hiking option). Some adventures are in Chile or Argentina, while others are in both.

Choose Your Style

As well as scheduled group departures, we can also accommodate private groups or create fully customized adventures. Call us on 800-974-0300 to find out more about our custom and private adventures.

Choose Your Dates

The best time to visit Patagonia is from December to March, which is summer in the southern hemisphere. Although gusty Patagonian winds can pick up at any time, this is when the weather is mildest with mostly blue skies.
